MOOC report( 2024-04) E-learning DepartmentThis report on the MOOC on "Children’s Right to Education in Armed Conflict" provides a short overview of the key features of the course as well as information about our participants – their expectations, motivations, professional background and feedback - gained from the course evaluation surveys on content and structure. Participants expressed great satisfaction with their experience, finding the the course well organised, informative and engaging. In terms of impact, the course exposed participants to new disciplines and perspectives and inspired them to explore ways to contribute to lasting change in the field of child protection. It also provided a comprehensive understanding of the legal and political frameworks surrounding education in conflict and fostered a community of professionals committed to protecting children and their well-being.

This MOOC was highly appreciated by our learners because of the very needed, cross-sectional topic; indeed the majority of active participants were directly involved in either migration or gender-based violence work and the volume of engagement was very high. Among the highlight of this MOOC, the interview with Lamya Haji Bashar (2016 Sakharov Prize Laureate) and a live webinar with practitioners (all three Global Campus alumni).

Due to popular demand, a 2nd endition of the MOOC was prepared. Feedback demonstrated a high level of self-reflection among the participants, who also articulated the added value of the course in terms of support to their studies and profession. This proves that the course has inspired new action in this area of human rights, and globally sustained professionals, including educators and researchers, in their daily work.

Report( 2020-01) Melchiorre, Angela ; Ottonello, GiacomoIn this short report on the MOOC "Monitoring the Human Rights of LGBTI Persons" you will read about the demographics of the audience, feedback on the courseware, what was most liked, and recommendations for improvement. The MOOC's multidisciplinary and multiregional approach, as well as the testimonies by LGBT activists from Turkey, Lebanon and Brazil, were highly appreciated. Additional highlights were a lecture by UN Independent Expert on Violence and Discrimination Based on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity, Victor Madrigal-Borloz, and an interview with Ms. Heidi Hautala, Member of the European Parliament. The MOOC offered knowledge, case studies and data that were not available before, thus inspiring new action in this area of human rights.

Report( 2022-05) GC E-Learning DepartmentThe report on the MOOC "Business and Human Rights-2022 Edition" showcases data and analysis on demographics, courseware, impact, highlights and recommendations. Participants expressed great satisfaction with their learning experience and materials deeming them suitable to different levels of preparation and needs: serving as an “eye-opener that gives a completely new point of view or gives the basic knowledge and definitions”, but also as a complementary material that helps systemize knowledge. Significantly, even the most experienced participants appreciated the in-depth expertise offered by our guest speakers.

This MOOC hit a niche area that sparks a lot of interest and where opportunities for creating impact are huge. For the first time, we had many participants from the business world. Despite the very intensive nature of this MOOC, participants not only were eager to study in depth, but also to share their questions and experiences with the MOOC community, and to share the courseware with their staff/co-workers.

This course, which features young activists from different regions of the world, was very successufl among youth: 40% of the participants were aged 19-24, and 11% were under 18 - definitely an audience committed to changemaking. Among the most frequent comments: participants plan to use the MOOC's materials to carry out professional tasks such as designing, monitoring and evaluating development projects.

As a follow-up to the MOOC "Children Deprived of Liberty: Learning from the UN Global Study", this MOOC was research-based as it was heavily informed by the work developed by the students of the Global Classroom 2020. Participants demonstrated a high level of appreciation of the course and described it as very relevant for professionals dealing with children.

This was a unique MOOC that was launched simultaneously with the UN Global Study on Children Deprived of Liberty, therefore attracting a lot of interest. Unique insights from the lead author, Prof. Manfred Nowak, and the experts who helped gather data, testimonies and analysis were deemed of the highest value by course participants.

This was one of the highest rated Global Campus MOOCs, which included top-notch lecturers (e.g. Edward Snowden, Right Livelihood Laureate) and inspiring, weekly engagement by the three MOOCs academic directors. Many participants enrolled with a double or even triple role (parent, professional, activist/volunteer/’active citizen’), which makes this audience possibly one of the most committed ever.

This MOOC was commissioned by EU CONVINCE (COmmoN Values INClusive Education), a joint project of ETUCE, EFEE and ESHA. Designed to support teaching professionals and educators, the course offered systematic use of case studies and good practices which was not only highly appreciated, but also made it easier for participants to connect their learning with real life.

Participants appreciated the very engaging materials and the intense exchange in the discussion forums. Many stated that this thought-provoking educational experience will inform and inspire their future actions. Nora Cortiñas of the movement Mothers of Plaza de Mayo and Albie Sachs, former judge on the Constitutional Court of South Africa, were among the many well-known experts and testimonials involved in this MOOC.

Participants valued learning about other continents and their human rights traditions, achievements and challenges, i.e. beyond the 'usual' UN and EU narratives on human rights. Complementing materials on standards and mechanism, with witness interviews on focus areas (e.g., memory, reconciliation, sexuality, disability, etc.) was considered as an added valued.

The audience was very satisifed with this course because of its structure, presentation, “robust” and “tremendous” materials, “excellent” recorded and live lecturers addressing current matters, and supportive and approachable course conveners. The MOOC was deemed very important as professional training, as it allowed participants to understand the status of the discussion at the international level.

MOOC report( 2022-10) GC E-Learning DepartmentIn this report on the MOOC "Science and Human Rights" we briefly present an overview of our participants - their expectations, motivations and professional profiles - as well as their constructive feedback on the content of the course. The audience found our MOOC materials to be highly inspiring: ‘well organised’, 'informative’ and ‘complete’, creating ‘a learning space of so much relevance for the scientists of today and the future’. In their own words ‘the course resulted as beneficial to all, even to the general public’, being an important step in explaining the applicable potential of enhancing the human rights-based approach in different fields of work where linking science and human rights brings actual change.

MOOC report( 2023-04) GC E-Learning DepartmentIn this report on the MOOC "Transitology – Pathways to and from Democracy" we briefly present an overview of our participants - their expectations, motivations and professional background - as well as their feedback on the course. The audience expressed great satisfaction with their learning experience, finding the course ‘perfectly balanced’ and the content ‘informative’ and ‘insightful’. In participants’ opinion, the course gave them the opportunity to better understand the political dynamics around regime transitions and to apply this knowledge into their daily work practice. It also helped them become active citizens able to think critically about current political developments and democratic trends, thus bolstering their ability to promote and protect democracy in their own countries.
