Neighbors, Abroad. A toolkit for Americans living overseas to resist fascism back home

Abstract

This toolkit is a practical resource for members of the American diaspora seeking to promote democracy and human rights in the United States through peaceful civic engagement. Developed by Global Campus alumni as part of the Global Campus Alumni Cross-Regional Projects, the toolkit combines academic research, lessons from social movements, and insights from interviews with activists, researchers and diaspora organisations to identify practical strategies for transnational civic action.

Organised around seven areas of action—including protest organising, mutual aid and fundraising, political education, support for individuals at risk, prison correspondence, voter mobilisation and strategic communications—the publication provides practical guidance, examples and additional resources that readers can adapt to their own contexts.

By highlighting the role that diaspora communities can play in supporting democratic participation, protecting vulnerable communities and building transnational solidarity, the toolkit offers a practical contribution to ongoing discussions on civic engagement, democratic resilience and human rights advocacy across borders.
