dc.description.abstract'Women's Economic Participation and Community-Based Textile Recycling in Indonesia: Evidence from the Bank Pakaian Initiative' examines how community-based textile recycling can strengthen women's economic participation while advancing environmental sustainability. Drawing on field research from the Bank Pakaian Initiative in Indonesia, the policy brief demonstrates how grassroots circular economy initiatives can enhance women's financial independence, social visibility and decision-making power, while reducing textile waste. It offers evidence-based recommendations for policymakers, local authorities and civil society organisations seeking to promote gender-responsive environmental policies and community-led circular economy models. Complementing the policy brief, the accompanying 'Digital Toolkit: A Practical Toolkit for Strengthening Women's Economic Participation through Community-Based Textile Recycling' translates these findings into practical guidance for implementation. Developed within the framework of the Global Campus Alumni 2025–26 Cross-Regional Activities, the toolkit provides adaptable, step-by-step resources for community leaders, civil society organisations, educators and practitioners interested in establishing or strengthening community-based textile recycling initiatives. Drawing on the experiences of the Bank Pakaian Initiative, it offers practical tools for community mapping, skills development, circular systems thinking, women's leadership and sustainable livelihood creation, while recognising women's existing knowledge and lived experiences as the foundation for inclusive and locally driven circular economy solutions. Together, the two publications bridge research and practice, offering both policy recommendations and practical resources to support gender-responsive, community-led approaches to environmental justice and sustainable development.
