dc.description.abstract This thesis deals with the execution of judgments of the European Court of Human Rights (“the Court”) by states, and its supervision by the main institutions of the Council of Europe, particularly after the entry into force of Protocol No. 14. After an analysis of the existing system of execution of the Court’s judgments (1), through the examination of the obligations and practices of states, and the study of the current system of supervision by the institutions of the Council of Europe, this thesis discusses proposals made both at national and European levels to ensure state’s compliance with the judgments of the Court (2). Thus, the aim of the thesis will be to contribute to the reflection on the reform of the Convention mechanism with a particular focus on the implementation of judgments, because it is assumed that non- or partial-compliance with the Court’s judgments prevents individuals from enjoying their Convention’s rights, and threatens the sustainability of the Convention system. en_US
