The field of human rights education since the creation of the United Nations Organisation up until today has gained constant increasing attention. Numerous international documents reflect the progressively stronger position of the field in the international community, the development of its concept and the expressed acknowledgement of the right to human rights education as a human right in itself. Furthermore these documents increasingly outline the creation of a culture of human rights as the ultimate goal of human rights education. This thesis works to clarify what the right to human rights education actually strives for. It sheds light on the meaning of the notion culture of human rights and scrutinises whether the concept of human rights education is adequately designed to work towards its outlined goal, the building of a culture of human rights. Using a primarily legal approach, the work mainly elaborates on international legal documents, foremost deriving from the field of the United Nations Organisation and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisationen_US
