Abstract
The study has been an effort at presenting the socio-economic structure of Bangladesh based on a historical approach. The role of the state, rural power structure and the numerous parameters including mode of production and demographic situation are highlighted. It also analyzed diverse factors that affect and guide relationship between state and global forces. The physical constraints in programmes implementation by NGOs in the grassroots level also been kept in view. In the course, the overall impact of such programmes on the lives of the poor (and strategies followed) has been focused upon. A comprehensive analysis of development programmes in Bangladesh perspectives and status of microfinance dispensation are also depicted. The overall impact of such programmes vis a vis the limitations, capabilities of NGOs and the roles played by national and international organization are presented. The study reveals the strategies to cope and continue the development role of NGOs needed for grassroots development. The observations and final recommendations have been based on working experience, and interaction with different experts and organizations. Possible tripartite measures as may be taken by the State, Civil societies, NGOs are also listed upon.
