dc.description.abstract | In an international system where state’s actions are judged principally for their lawfulness, the perpetual inability of the international community to comprehensively address the causes and consequences of violent political conflict leads to a situation in which the human rights of individuals are frequently violated. This study focuses on the working relationship of NATO and its civilian partners as part of a comprehensive approach in conflict environments. It balances empirical evidence and theoretical discussion from two of the principle stakeholders in the humanitarian setting during violent political conflict; namely international civilian organisations and military forces. By addressing pragmatic issues on the ground as well as the long term strategic outlook of those actors involved, this paper provides various recommendations on the future conduct of civil-military cooperation in order to provide an environment in which individuals can not only survive but also thrive. | en_US |
