dc.description.abstract The thesis analyses the potential impact of Corporate Social Responsibility in the Chinese garment industry. The characteristics and the causes of the main problems in the industry show that Corporate Social Responsibility can play a role in ‘solution building’ within a delimited field. In order to play this role CSR has to adapt to developments in the Chinese society, pursue certain strategies and meet the set benchmarks of coverage and sustainability. A performance analysis of the current Corporate Social Responsibility mechanisms on these benchmarks shows an incompleteness of the concept. In order to have a potential impact in the Chinese garment industry Corporate Social Responsibility should undergo certain adjustments and be a mix of bottom-up and to-down approaches. en_US
